Jacob Denson founded Helpful Handy Man over 18 years ago as a one-man operation, handling everything from minor repairs to major renovations across Asheville and the surrounding areas. With a hands-on approach, a reputation for dependability, and a drive to do things the right way, Jacob built long-lasting relationships and a trusted name in the local community.
Over the years, the business evolved — taking on larger projects and offering full home solutions. From changing lightbulbs and replacing doors to full-scale custom builds, additions, and complete home renovations, no job was ever too small — or too ambitious.
In 2025, Jacob partnered with Jeff Thogmartin, a skilled professional with a shared vision and years of experience. Together, they’ve combined forces to expand the business under a new name — Denson Construction — with a sharpened focus on kitchen and bathroom remodels, while still delivering the same reliable service the company was built on.

Jacob Denson
Jacob Denson is the founder of Denson Construction, bringing over 18 years of experience in residential construction and home renovations. He began his career as a solo handyman and has since grown the business into a full-service construction company, handling everything from remodels to custom home builds. Jacob is currently in the process of obtaining his General Contractor (GC) license to further expand the company’s capabilities and services.
He oversees estimating, project planning, and quality control — ensuring every client’s vision is brought to life with precision, from start to finish.
When Jacob isn’t on a job site or managing projects, you’ll likely find him spending time with his family, enjoying the outdoors, on the dance floor catching live music, or putting time back into himself and his community. He cares deeply about his spiritual and personal development, believing that continual growth and mindfulness strengthen both his work and relationships. Jacob believes great work starts with great relationships — and his favorite part of the job is connecting with clients and helping turn their ideas into reality, treating each project as if it were his own.

Jeff Thogmartin
Jeff Thogmartin brings a unique blend of technical expertise and forward-thinking strategy to Denson Construction. With a background in Avionics (aviation electronics), Jeff spent years in a highly precise and detail-oriented industry — skills that now translate into his work behind the scenes, helping grow and modernize the Denson Construction brand.
He joined the team in 2025, bringing a strong focus on marketing, systems, and digital presence. From streamlining operations to expanding the company’s reach beyond word-of-mouth, Jeff plays a vital role in helping Denson Construction evolve and grow while staying grounded in its reputation for quality and trust.
When he’s not working on the business, Jeff enjoys woodworking, personal and spiritual growth, and spending time outdoors — whether hiking, backpacking, or canoeing through the mountains of Western North Carolina. He’s passionate about building things that last, whether it’s a relationship, a brand, a business, or a piece of furniture — always with craftsmanship and intention at the core.
